Panasonic's first Euro-bound smartphone spotted

09 December 2011

Unnamed Android phone heading to UK in March

Regular readers will know of Panasonic's plans to hit the European smartphone market in 2012 in a big way. But what we didn't know about was any hardware specifics for that European launch last month. Today, we have our first glimpse.

First shots of the phone have surfaced and it's certainly a good-looking best. Specifics are thin on the ground (about as thin as the phone), but this is an Android phone, presumably running Ice Cream Sandwich, with a 4.3-inch OLED display and qHD display resolution. It's waterproof, dustproof, and features an NFC chip (based upon that logo on the back).

Other details are still to come, although Panasonic has said the phone will 'initially target business people in their 30s and 40s'. That's interesting, because previous reports have indicated Panasonic wants to go mass market with its worldwide smartphones. In fact, it has forecast sales of 15 million units by 2015, which is three times Panasonic's current Japanese sales. All of which indicates that this rather niche handset will be just one phone out of a range launching next year.

More to follow on this one for sure. We'll keep you posted.
