PlayStation Phone to be called Xperia Play?22 December 2010
Handset said to launch in February, offered for sale in April
News is coming in thick and fast about the Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone, although if reports are to be believed, the Android-based gaming handset will actually be called the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.
That's according to Engadget, which has spotted a number of EU trademark applications, one of them being Xperia Play. Also registered are Xperia Arc, Xperia Duo, and Xperia Neo, all of which sounds like SE is going to busy in the near future. Shame about that PlayStation Phone name being ditched though, if indeed it has been.
Talking of the PlayStation Phone
Xperia Play, Pocket Lint claims it has details on the launch. According to 'sources close to the matter' (which could mean anything), the phone will be shown off for the first time officially at the Mobile World Congress trade show in February, with a shelf date planned for April.
'Sony Ericsson is going big on this one', that source said, 'but although it will get a Feb launch, it won’t be in shops until April'.
In the meantime, you'll have to make do with the PlayStation app for your current phone, even though it's a very poor substitute.
