Two Androids and one Windows device spotted in separate snaps
Is Sony (formerly known as Sony Ericsson) about to drop a Windows Phone 7.5 handset? Possibly, if a newly-discovered snap is the real deal.
Three 'new' Sony phones have appeared online in the last 24 hours, one of which is of the Microsoft variety. Unusual because we presumed (like most people) that Sony was focusing on Android for all its higher-end smartphones. That might still be the case, as the photo shown here doesn't give too much away. It might be an old concept long scrapped or an all-new design. It looks like some kind of 'slider' device from the image and is said to be running Windows Phone Mango, which does indicate recent work. The jury is out, possibly until the MWC trade show at the end of February, always a great showcase for new mobile phones.
But don't for a minute think Sony is ditching Android. In fact, you can expect one or two more Sony-branded Android phones at that MWC show, which might include two other leaked smartphones - said to be going by the names Nypon and Kumquat. You can take both of those as codenames, both will be part of the Xperia brand.
The two newly-spotted phones have appeared in some kind of Sony 'team photo' - you can see the ones we're referring to via the red arrows on that snap. The bigger one at the bottom is a NovaThor U8500-based handset with a 4-inch qHD Reality display and 8MP camera with 1080p video recording. Not a million miles from the Xperia S, but enough to differentiate it. The other, smaller smartphone is said to be the Xperia mini successor, again using NovaThor U8500 chipset, but with a smaller 3.5-inch FWVGA Reality display and a 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording.
Interesting stuff and with MWC just weeks away, not long to wait for the real deal(s).
