Samsung Galaxy S III launch delayed?

26 January 2012

Flagship Android smartphone still launching 'before summer'

Not a great deal is known about it aside from a mysterious photo and a couple of headline details, but we all expected the Samsung Galaxy S III to launch at the MWC event in February. It now turns out that the proposed launch has been delayed.

The phone has been kept under wraps by Samsung, although there have been rumours of a 12-megapixel camera, a quad-core processor, Ice Cream Sandwich for the operating system and if that photo turns out to be legitimate, a pretty large screen size too. All of that would have made the Galaxy S III the star of the show (or at least, one of them) at the upcoming Barcelona trade show.

However, The Verge site is claiming the launch has been delayed. Not a big delay, but we aren't going to see the February launch

April shelf date that was widely expected. However, a launch event will still take place 'before summer'. Why the delay? Apparently Samsung isn't comfortable with a long time lag between a global launch and US network availability, a market that's crucial to Samsung's success.

Samsung will still have a strong presence at the MWC event, launching some 'interesting stuff', which might involve a refresh of the Galaxy Tab line and a Windows Phone. We'll have all the launches as they happen at the tail end of February – it's just a shame that doesn't look like including a new Galaxy S.
