Samsung to launch Galaxy S II Plus at MWC?

02 February 2012

Faster processor on enhanced Android smartphone

While the statement that the Samsung Galaxy S III would not launch at the upcoming MWC event has put to bed one rumour, it seems to have kickstarted another - the arrival of the Galaxy S II Plus.

Ok, the Samsung statement hasn't actually created the new rumour, but it has given it new weight. A phone going by the name of the Galaxy S II Plus showed up in the An3DBenchXL benchmark database, the handset showing as having Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread on-board, a WVGA display and a processor clocking at 1.5GHz. The Galaxy S II has a 1.2GHz Exynos processor, so this is a step up. There might be other new or enhanced features too - but none of those would be recorded on a benchmark test.

Samsung has done the 'Plus' thing on the past, with the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus launched just last month. A new version of the S II would certainly fill a gap and keep the sales ticking over until the Galaxy S III finally takes its bow, which is anytime during the first half of this year.

As ever, we'll keep you posted if this becomes reality anytime soon.
