Reports claim phone to be just 7mm thick
The Samsung Galaxy S III is a strange beast. The first official word on the phone was that it wasn't launching at the MWC event this month. Although by doing that, the company did confirm it would be unveiled in the 'first half of this year'. That gives us plenty of time to speculate, with some juicy details already in.
Some of those come from Korean site EtNews, which seems to know more than most about Samsung's next flagship smartphone. That site claims the phone will get an official launch in May (which fits in well with that 'first half' statement) and will be slimmer than the already slim Samsung Galaxy S II. How slim? 7mm thick
thin in comparison to the 8.49mm of its predecessor. That's been made possible because of printed circuit board (PCB), connector parts, so chips can be produced 10 to 20% thinner than conventional parts. Clever stuff.
The site also claims that the S III will pack a quad-core processor, LTE connectivity, a HDMI port and of course, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There's also talk of the camera on the phone having 3D support and the screen being a HD SUPER-AMOLED display.
It's said that Samsung wants to sell 30 million units of the phone this year. With a specification like this, it doesn't surprise us. More news nearer to that launch.
