Mini smartphone bumps up the processor and screen

It might not be holding a big press launch at MWC this year, but that isn't going to stop Samsung knocking out a clutch of new phones at the MWC event at the end of this month. We strongly suspect the Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 is going to be one of them.

Details and indeed, a promotional image, have appeared online, showing an improved phone from last year's original, which is good news for us, as the original didn't exactly get our pulses racing in review. But to be fair, this is a low-end phone with a price tag to match. You get what you pay for.

In the case of the new model, you get a bigger 3.3-inch screen with higher resolution (HVGA), a faster processor (800MHz), along with 3GB of built-in storage. Also present is Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the operating system, a 3-megapixel camera and 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity from the original, with Samsung's ChatON app completing the listed features. Not a big difference in looks either, although it does have a a 'hump' on the lower back of the case to differentiate from the first model.

With the details supplied with that promo image stating 'Feb 2012' for the launch, this looks like a safe MWC launch. Hopefully not the big or indeed, only launch from Samsung at the event.
