Panasonic's Eluga smartphone is a serious lightweight at just 103g

We were mighty impressed when we got hands-on with the Panasonic Eluga at MWC. Weighing just 103g, this is one of the lightest smartphones we sampled in Barcelona and one of the thinnest also, with a sleek 7.8mm body.

The slender frame feels reassuringly tough and like Fujitsu's new range of phones, is waterproof for those unfortunate toilet mishaps. We saw the Eluga working perfectly even when the demonstrator chucked it in this fishbowl:

The Pansaonic Eluga we saw was running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade is due this summer. That's a bit of a wait, but we're sure the 1GHz dual-core processor will handle Google's latest OS.

The 4.3-inch OLED qHD screen was bright and crisp, stretching over the bulk of the body. You also get an 8MP camera, which captured clean, colourful shots in the dingy booth.

Check back soon for a full review of the Panasonic Eluga!
