The Symbian handset turns an Android smartphone
The original was a Symbian phone and got a fairly average review off us when it launched in March last year. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz 2 promises to be a very different and possibly more appealing smartphone.
Mobile Review has managed to get hands-on with what's described as a pre-production model, which probably means a launch is due soon, Maybe at next month's MWC event. Whenever it arrives, we're definitely looking at revolution rather than a simple evolution of the first-generation handset.
According to the site, the new handset has a larger, sharper screen, with the option of hooking up the Bravia-branded handset to an even larger one via HDMI. The operating system is Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), with Sony Ericsson (perhaps unsurprisingly) waving goodbye to Symbian S60.
Also on-board is an 8-megapixel camera, 300MB of storage and an improved processor, as well as a USB slot, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a battery that's described as 'quite a performer'. In other words, you'll get some life out of it, even if you're hammering the media.
As we said, next month is a likely launch date, with a shelf date sometime over the summer also likely.
