Apple introduces iOS 4.3.1 update

But big iOS 5 update looks set for delay

What's that? Another Apple iOS update? Don't get too excited, it's essentially an upgrade to fix previous floating bugs.

Available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, the update specifically sorts out occasional graphics errors on the iPod touch (4G), errors related to activating and connecting to some mobile networks, image flicker when using the Apple Digital AV Adapter with some TVs and an issue authenticating with some enterprise web services. Not all that exciting, but if you have those problems, it's probably very welcome.

The next big story for Apple (aside from ongoing iPad 2 shortages) is likely to be the arrival of iOs 5. According to TechCrunch, that's likely to be delayed and 'not coming anytime soon'. It's apparently for good reason, a major revamp of the platform is being undertaken.

The site claims the new version, landing in the autumn, will be heavily built around the cloud and new services, including a 'music locker' service and a location service that focuses on finding friends and family members easily. Traditionally, the new iOS launches with a new phone, but due to the delay, it could be that Apple releases a new iPhone 5 with a version of iOS 4.X initially, upgrading further down the line. Of course, it could delay the new iPhone too, we're likely to find out more in the coming weeks, when the expected launch date gets nearer and the leaks get more substance. We'll keep you informed.
