Android 2.3 rolls out to Samsung Galaxy S

19 April 2011

Vodafone confirms upgrade coming to UK this week

We heard it was coming a couple of weeks back, but now we hear that the Android 2.3 upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy S is rolling out over this very week.

According to Pocket Lint, some owners are seeing the update, while others aren't. We would guess the sim-free users are getting it first, with the networks following. The Three network confirmed it would be around in the middle of April, so expect it soon on there. Vodafone though, has gone one better.

According to a posting on the Vodafone forum: 'A new maintenance release for the Samsung Galaxy S is now available for Vodafone customers. This is an Android platform update to 2.3 Gingerbread which introduces a number of fixes and improvements'.

The means an enhanced interface, a new Android keyboard with easy copy and paste, improved power management, multiple camera management and the ability to switch the device to GSM (2G) only. Apparently, for Vodafone customers, the software update can be done manually by connecting your handset to your computer via USB and opening the Samsung KIES application. You will apparently be prompted that an update is available, after which you should follow the on screen instructions.

Other users, check with your network for specifics. It should really be available anyday soon.
