Acer, ZTE and Fujitsu to launch Windows Phone 7 handsets - Lower-priced WP7 phones confirmed

Windows Phone 7 handsets will take a nosedive in price this year, as new manufacturers throw their hat into Microsoft’s arena.

At today’s unveiling of the Mango update to the ‘Soft’s new WP7, corporate VP of Windows Phone marketing Achim Berg confirmed that three more manufacturers will join the WP7 ranks.

Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE will all launch smartphones with the Mango version of the OS sometime in the second half of the year. Unlike Samsung, HTC and LG, whose Windows smartphones have launched at the high-end side of the price spectrum, these companies join Nokia – which recently announced its partnership with Microsoft to exclusively release Windows smartphones – in releasing mid-priced handsets.

“Nokia will be our most important partner – and we’re happy to announce that Nokia phones will come to market with the Mango update,” said Berg. There was no actual announcement of a Nokia Windows phone, which Berg suggested would happen in late summer.
