Operator continues march of low-cost Android smartphones
We loved the Orange San Francisco, which packed all the goodness of Android 2.1 into a sub-£100, classily built smartphone body.
So it's with some gleeful rubbing together of frugal hands that we report on the official launch day for the latest additions to Orange's wallet-friendly Android range, the Barcelona and the Stockholm.
Unveiled last week, the Barcelona runs on the second-newest version of Android, 2.2 Froyo, with a QWERTY keyboard beneath a 2.6-inch touch-screen. It also packs a 3.2-megapixel camera and FM radio.
Also announced was the Stockholm, another Android 2.2 Froyo, but slightly less feature-packed and marketed as the entry-level device ideal for those looking to buy up from a feature phone.
Both devices come with Orange's Signal Boost service, recently expanded for wider voice call coverage, while the Barcelona also comes with Orange's HD Voice for better call audio.
Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but both devices are expected land at below £100 when they launch on July 1.
