Mid-range Android phone gets a new name for Europe

In the US, this is the Motorola Mobility. In Europe, we get a more 'manly' name for this new Android smartphone, the Motorola Fire. Maybe the scooter association was a concern.

Not a million miles from the LG Optimus Pro we featured yesterday, it's likely to be working that same mid-range market when it does land in the UK. Which means it will offer a reasonable, but not cutting edge, Android experience, throwing in a QWERTY keypad for social network, email and SMS addicts.

Other features confirmed at launch include that Android OS (Froyo initially, but with Android 2.3 Gingerbread when it finally does launch over here), a QVGA touch-screen, a three-megapixel camera and a microSD slot with up to 32GB capacity. There's also the Moto Switch UI plus 3G (HSDPA specifically), Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity and that badge of the lower-end smartphone, the FM radio.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but a date of 'late summer' has been thrown into the mix. Expect it at a modest contract rate when it does land and probably pay-as-you-go too.
