The first Windows Phone Mango handset?

It was officially unveiled in May, with the Windows Phone 7 Mango update said to be available from autumn with a clutch of new phones launching with it. Is one of them the HTC Omega?

A phone by that name has been detailed online, although sadly, not caught on camera. The phone pictured here is the HTC Mozart, which is likely to be replaced in the HTC Windows arsenal by the HTC Omega, complete with that Windows 7.5 OS update.

A report at T3 claims the handset will come with a 3.8-inch, 800x480 S-LCD display screen, 16GB of internal storage (with no SD expansion), an eight-megapixel camera, 720p video shooting and a 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, which should add a bit of muscle to the handset.

Obviously it's good news for Microsoft that HTC is still backing the platform, which is probably quite a niche market compared to Android. But with the OS still in its infancy, that's no surprise. Autumn as we said, so expect this smartphone, probably under a different name, to be on the shelves before Christmas. Expect those 'spy' shots well before then.
