Android beats iOS, but Apple is top manufacturer28 July 2011
Nielsen stats also show top Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7 manufacturers
As if it wasn't clear from the influx of Android smartphones, it's now officially the top-selling OS in the US smartphone market, with a 39% share. Apple's iOS is a ways off but still in second place - it's grabbed 28%, while RIM's BlackBerry OS trails at just 20%.
Of course, Android is on a ton of phones, while iOS is just on one, which makes its 28% share pretty impressive – and makes Apple the top smartphone manufacturer in the US. Not surprising, as the Cupertino company recently reported its best sales quarter ever.
HTC's stable of Android phones represent 14% of the market and its Windows phones make up 6% of the Windows Mobile
WP7 arena. Following in HTC's well-designed footsteps is Samsung, with an 8% share of the Android smartphone game, and 2% of the Windows market.
These stats come from a June analysis by Nielsen, which was kind enough to pop it all into a handy chart.
