Rumours Apple can't get enough Retina displays for iPad 3 launch

The not-even-remotely-confirmed-for-2011 launch for iPad 3 is now said to be jeopardy, thanks entirely to a shortage of Pad-sized Retina screens. It's now "rumoured" that it's going to be sometime in 2012, instead of the rumoured "late-2011". We wonder if Steve Jobs himself even knows what's rumour and what's rock solid info.

Taiwan's Digitimes<

em> are the ones fuelling this whisper, rattling out that Apple 'was originally set to launch its iPad 3 in the second half of 2011 with a supply volume of 1.5-2 million units in the third quarter and 5-6 million in the fourth quarter.' But it would appear that Apple has had the carpet pulled from under its feet, as its screen supplier can't knock out that many in that timeframe. Well, so says the rumour.

iPad 3 gossip has been knocking around since July, and quite frankly we're surprised rumours haven't started about the iPad 4 yet. The stupendously high-res Retina screen - which currently only resides on the iPhone 4 - was something that we all quite rightly expected to appear on the iPad 2. And it didn't. Obviously. More rumours soon.
