APP WATCH: Vimeo launches mobile apps09 January 2012
Watch, upload and edit videos on iOS, Android or Windows devices
YouTube isn't the only video site in town – Vimeo has its own loyal following, too. If you happen to be one of them, you'll probably want to download one of the newly-launched mobile apps for the platform.
Indeed, if you do use Vimeo, these apps are pretty impressive. Yes, you can watch videos on your phone or tablet, that's a given. But the apps, which are launching for iOS, Android and Windows devices, go further than that.
'With the widespread accessibility of high-quality video on mobile devices and high- speed mobile internet access, people use their mobile devices not only to watch video but to shoot and then upload video to share online,' said Joe Schmitt, lead mobile developer at Vimeo. 'With mobile devices making up approximately 15% of our site traffic, we recognise the importance of expanding our platforms to allow people to access Vimeo from as many devices as possible.'
The newly-launched apps allow users to browse and watch the full range of videos on Vimeo, as well as allowing you to like, comment on, or add videos to a 'Watch Later' queue. On top of that, you can easily upload your raw footage or previously edited creations in HD or SD, pause
resume uploads, replace existing videos, edit titles and tags, share your videos across multiple platforms and social networks and access stats about your video. That's pretty much everything you could need.
The apps will be launching for Windows Mobile 7, iOS and Android today, with Android devices running Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread) and above compatible, as well as Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) and above.
