Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and Mini 2 budget Android phones to arrive April

Samsung just launched two budget new Galaxy smartphones, the Galaxy Ace 2 and the Galaxy Mini 2, aimed at active people who want a ‘stylish yet affordable' handset. Both mobiles will hit your local phone stores in April, prices still to be confirmed.

We were a little concerned when Samsung recently cancelled its MWC appearance, wondering if we'd see anything new from the Korean giant in early 2012. Thankfully our fears were a little premature. Samsung has already unveiled the Galaxy Tab 2, follow-up to the excellent Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet, and is continuing to reveal its new pets ahead of the Barcelona trade show.

Both phones have cut-down specs, and run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. We've asked Samsung if there are any plans to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich in the near future and so far there's nothing set in stone.

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2

The Ace 2 is 11m thick and features 3.8-inch TFT screen with 480x800 WVGA resolution. The dual-core 800MHz processor looksa little basic compared to all the beefy next-gen phones emerging, but we're hoping the Ace 2's price will reflect the budget CPU. A front-facing VGA camera and five-megapixel rear camera with flash rounds off the specs.

The Galaxy Ace 2 may only pack 4GB of internal storage but you do get a microSD memory card slot. You also get access over 13 million tracks on the Samsung Music Hub, so you won't be stuck for music when you're roaming.

Samsung Galaxy Mini 2

The Galaxy Mini 2 is a dinky mobile with a 3.3-inch screen, and a slim 12mm body. It's also a colourful little chap – check out the bright golden back below.

The Mini 2 is clearly a budget model, powered by a single-core 800MHz processor and featuring a basic three-megapixel camera without flash. It also comes with a limited 4GB of storage, once again expandable via microSD.
