Huawei launches quad-core Ascend D Quad

Super slim Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone now purportedly world's fastest

Rumour is fact yo, and Huawei has indeed launched the quad-core Ascend D Quad, a high-spec followup to the super-slim Ascend P1 we saw at CES.

The Android Ice Cream Sandwich phone packs a 4.5-inch 720- HD screen at 330ppi clarity - more or less that of the iPhone 4S. It wil come in two versions, one with a 1.2GHz quad-core chip, the other with an even beefier 1.5Ghz four-core, with both boasting Huawei's proprietary power management system, which the company is saying will boost energy efficiency by 30%.

Translation: better battery life, helped along by the larger-than-most 1800mAh battery meant to offer over a day and up to two on a single charge.

As expected from Sony, the 'entertainment' factor is high, with an eight-megapixel camera matched with a 1.3-meg front-facer, Dolby surround sound and 1080p full HD video capture and playback, brilliance increased by a 32-bit graphics chip - again an industry first for speed, says Huawei.

All this is squeezed into a compact chassis that feels more spacious thanks to a display that stretches to the very edges. Its 8.9mm thickness keeps it one of the slimmer smarties around.

We'll have a hands-on and lots of pretty pictures soon - keep an eye right here!
