Dual-core Android smartphones primed for entertainment

Sony has confirmed the launch of the Xperia P and Xperia U, the latest phones in the Sony NXT series launched with the Xperia S.

Like the Xperia S, Xperia P features a eight-megapixel camera and full-HD video recording. HDMI connectivity allows high-def sound and picture thrown onto the big screen - or surfing the net on your mobile with a TV as your monitor.

Xperia P also works with NFC tags like Xperia S, where you can pop NFC-enabled fobs that activate preset apps or profile combinations on your phone - for example, sounds off whne you get to the office, or start music when you get home.

Xperia P will be available in brushed aluminium, three colours, and hit the shelves in Q2.

Chief marketing officer Steve Walker confirmed that all Xperia smartphones would come with a dual-core processor, in contrast to the quad-core superphones announced by Huawei and HTC.

At a lower price point, we have the Xperia U, a 'compact design of Sony Entertainment', with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 3.5-inch (480x854) display and a five-megapixel camera. There's also some kind of detachable chin, which comes in subtle black or shocking pink, that you can customise the base of the phone with. <

Three has confirmed it wil stock the Xperia U, while Orange has dibs on a white version.

We'll have details on this and more when we go hands-on with these two flagships of the new Sony brand. <
