Android smartphone likely to be called Fire XT
With an expected name of the Motorola Fire XT, we suspect that Moto's latest Android smartphone is likely to get confused with the recently-announced Motorola Fire. So let's stick to the original name for now, that being the the Motorola XT531.
Whereas the original Fire was a QWERTY-clad handset, the XT531 goes down the touch-screen route, specifically with a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive multi-touch display, while the Android 2.3 operating system combines with the Moto Switch UI to control the handset.
You'll also find a 800MHz processor, 512MB of storage, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, a five-megapixel camera with flash, a front-facing VGA camera plus an FM radio with RDS support. The phone comes preloaded with social media apps, along with Moto Switch functionality, for keeping work and play separate.
From all of that, you might have gathered that this is more mid-range than cutting edge, although it certainly covers most of the basics, processor aside. Look out for it in the UK from autumn, with 'affordable' being the only clue to the price so far.
